So if my laptop is one of these baytrail chips I don't have much chance of getting the screen to work if i do a full install of Ubuntu and now have no windows 8.
Not sure if I have any options left....

Not planning on doing anything as i have now no idea which way to go.
Any advice on getting my laptop screen up and running would be appreciated as well.

I had a similar problem. Try connecting a VGA Cable from laptop to TV/monitor.
