Your problem is the Intel driver, not Nvidia. The Nvidia driver does not run your desktop view. Try this and reboot:

If you name it to .wav, it should come out that way in theory. In reality, you might have to adjust some of the arguments given to sox.
Most likely, you will only have to change it to .wav.
