Its my bad, The version i was using was 2.2 which had problemss [checked in many forums] , i executed the 2.5 version and it is solved now.

I think u need to go to that directory and ./configure it.
type pwd it prints the working directory. then travel to the directory where you extracted the contents of tar.gz.
Add SYSTEM MONITOR to the panel. So by that way you can activate it by clicking on it and end the "non responding" programs easily without having to go to the terminal.

u need Exaile to minimize to the tray.
Alt+f2 > Type 'gksu nautilus' > type in the password > u get to operate as a root [so kinda be careful not to mess up] > choose a drive which failed to mount[try any drive other than ur windows] >...
Or even you could try downloading "Storage Device manager" from synaptic (pysdm).......it worked for me for automounting the ntfs drives.
Have you tried to 'shut down' the windows and then restart to Ubuntu.
Right click on the panel > add to panel > Create Application Launcher > Sound and Video > Exaile .
You might want to 'untick' the 'Lock to Panel' for the separator, to place the launcher along...
Wow....that's quite messed up.....u shud have tried for help around here. Try a new install [fresh one] and have a look at the book mentioned in this post, it could help you the next time.

I am also having a similar problem.It's not only with Amarok but also happens with Exaile. It seems u have marked the thread solved but you haven't posted the solution to it.If u have got it...
I just removed my charger waited for my laptop to discharge completely(which meant it shuts down too)....and everything is back to normal.
