No, there isn't a /dev/sda3.
Not sure what happened to it.
The extended partition appears to be /dev/sda4.
I had followed a tutorial for triple-booting XP, Win7, and Ubuntu.
I guess there...
My hard drive originally had partitions for XP, Win7, and Ubuntu 12.04.
XP was /dev/sda1

Ubuntu was /dev/sda5
swap was /dev/sda6
Can someone explain to me why there isn't...

Thank you.
Yes, this is an old laptop, so I am going to keep the default video driver. :)
In that case, I have no idea.
I use Windows XP for my very simple DVD authoring and burning needs.

Post by Maximus_ARNP works beautifully for Ubuntu 12.04 with wired connection.
With 12.04 I did not have to install any drivers.
I deleted the external hard drive's entry from /etc/fstab file.
Ubuntu was wanting to automount it at boot.
I have some data files on an external hard drive.
I just did a clean install of 12.04.
I noticed this morning that if I don't have the external hard drive connected, Ubuntu won't boot.
Why?
Thanks everyone.
I don't want to host a website on this server; I just want to use it to share files across the various PCs in my own network.

I went to Applications Menu -> Settings -> Desktop, but there wasn't an option for either volumes or partitions.
Looks like it isn't available in xfce.
Is there a way to have the icon for the XP partition show up on the desktop?
The partition is mounted.
