Try refreshing your window manager, usually under compiz, if you've installed it.

Failing that, log out and start a new session by clicking in the bottom left to choose "Select Session". Then...

Managed to get that done. It was a bit tricky because I couldn't get the hardware to be recognised and had to force it but ended up with no display other than choosing "Failsafe Terminal" to help.

I had this problem, but solved it by turning up the opacity of my desktop cube to 100% in the display's Settings Manager.

It's now totally flicker free.
