Hi guys and Happy New Year!
I haven't been here for a while, but I always found help when I needed it and today I need your counsel again.
I have 2 machines, one running Windows 7 and the...
I'm a bit confused now....
That's a relief. I've tried Unity with a Live CD a couple of times and I don't say it's bad, but I got used to Gnome so much that it's hard to change.
Thanks for your answers, Dan
Anyone?
Bump!
Hmm... So the new release comes only with unity? I can't choose the normal gnome desktop, or at least install it afterwards?
Cheers, Dan
OK, so I manage to boot from the stick, but only if I set in BIOS as primary hard drive the USB stick. I created a stick using the Startup Disk Creator and one using Unetbootin, and both work but...
I don't know how to do that unfortunately. Can you direct me step by step?
Thanks.
Can you elaborate a bit on that please?
Cheers, Dan
Hi guys,
It's been a while since I last posted, but I always got help in the past, so I'm sure you will help me figure this out also :)
I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 and it seems that it's no longer...
Try this: open a terminal (Applications - Accessories - Terminal) and paste this command:
sudo apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com 16126D3A3E5C1192
Then try again searching...
Thanks everybody for your cooperation (especially jtarin), the problem is solved!
I fixed the MBR with the Windows 7 installation disk, reinstalled GRUB on the Ubuntu partition, booted into windows...
No use. I removed the flag, but the same thing happens: the computer just restarts when I choose to boot into windows...
No, Ubuntu did not resize the windows partition, the partition were already there.
First, I had dual boot between XP and Ubuntu, and then I decided to switch to Windows 7 and Ubuntu. So, I installed...
The partition were already prepared before I install anything, so that's not an issue. Here is my bootscript and a screenshot with gparted.

Hello all!
Like the title says, I have problems trying to dual boot those systems.
I installed Windows 7 first, and the installation had no problems, the system was 100% operational. Then I...
The migration will be very easy. Basically, I doubt you will feel any difference. Mint is (at least) 90% Ubuntu so the transition won't be a problem.
Thank you all for your answers. I must go to sleep now, here is almost 1:00 AM, but I am still waiting for your opinions and comments and I will see them in the morning.
Good night all!
Maybe I didn't make myself understood. I don't want to keep 2 distros, only one. I will format the boot partition and install the other OS and keep only /home.
What about the debian distros? Will there be a problem with user uid there?
So, the only problem would be user uid? All debian based distro have the same user uid? Do you know if Mandriva, or PC LinuxOS have the same user uid as Ubuntu?
Hello all!
I have a few questions about switching distros. My primary concern is if my settings will still be there after installing the new OS. I have a separate /home partition.
I had Ubuntu...
OK, guys, last try. I tried everything I found on the internet to fix at least my network applet (like this thread for example:...
