There's a bug here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-session/+bug/1251281
Solution for now: add eugenesan's PPA (https://launchpad.net/~eugenesan/+archive/ubuntu/ppa)
Did you enable radeon.dpm=1 on your GRUB boot line? Otherwise performance isn't great as the power profile (and so clock rate) doesn't change.

Catalyst 13.9 (fglrx 13.152) has only just been released (like, three days ago). It takes a little time for packagers to check what has changed and patch the driver to ensure it works - it's not a...

Just a quick one-liner as a workaround for now:
sudo apt-get install grub-common=2.00-18ubuntu1 grub-pc=2.00-18ubuntu1 grub-pc-bin=2.00-18ubuntu1 grub2-common=2.00-18ubuntu1
Worth keeping an eye on with future daily kernels, but those things are slippery. Last time I tried them I found strange issues appeared and disappeared with great regularity.
Now that's an error I haven't seen before. Does it also happen with the standard repo kernel? (I'm assuming not, as this does seem like more of an idealistic error rather than any real problem!)

The patch for the previous version fixing the /proc/ati permissions problem works fine on beta 2 (it's one line). I was waiting for the new version to appear in Edgers but that doesn't seem to have...
Within pavucontrol, check under Configuration that your audio is set to Duplex. Under recording, make sure that the input device is not Monitor (if it is, set it to your sound device).

There appear to be horrible memory leaks with both Catalyst 13.7 (fglrx 13.150) and 13.8 (13.200) manifesting when people run Source games (TF2, L4D2) and occasionally with XBMC. The driver is...

If you have the same error (i.e. not being allowed access to direct rendering) you will need to change some permissions:
$ sudo chmod -R a+rX /proc/ati

You could always install Windows in a virtual machine while waiting for Crossover to support Saucy (and Jessie).
As happens regularly during the development process, as packages are updated other packages need to be rebuilt. At the moment, there are a number of packages incompatible with the latest gvfs update....

Looks like 13.6 supports kernel 3.11-rc1, which is nice. Or at least DKMS builds the kernel modules!
Oh, go on then. Let's see how many of my kernel modules fail to build. :D
Edit: Surprisingly, fglrx 13.101 builds ok. Unsurprisingly, SPL (for ZoL) fails to build.
1) Just use the debs from the repo. They work fine, there's no need to patch at the moment.
2) You shouldn't need to use sudo for the patching process. The error also indicates you haven't...
What sort of laptop do you have (make, model)? Which kernel are you running (e.g. run $ uname -a )? Do you have any PPAs enabled?
I just noticed that the touchpad on my Dell 1749 is also not...
Well, I tried to get it running and failed. I just ended up with normal X. I am running xserver 1.14, though, which might not help (and I can't see fglrx playing nicely).
