I have an iBook G4. The trackpad used to work in earlier versions of Ubuntu, but I just finished upgrading and it no longer works in Ubuntu 11.10.

The hack I got from the other thread worked for me. It involves manual changes to your sources list, command line interaction, and forced rebooting… Definitely not for the faint of heart.
I can confirm that this worked. It's entirely possible that B_Free's remark is spot-on. I haven't used much of the system. Firefox works. :)
I wonder where I could get the "official" sources.list...
