I am running a server with 8.04 which serves as local mailserver and domain controller via openldap and samba. At the moment, I only have Linux and WinXP clients, but that will change to Windows7. So...
  2. Re: Permissions!

I had the same problems with my server. The best solution I found was to share the directory via samba, so I can set the permissions via fstab and smb.conf. Works fine now with both WinXP and Ubuntu...

[ubuntu] Re: Remote desktop over the internet

    Hi Bruno,

maybe you should give Gitso a try. It's very easy to use and your sister doesn't have to do anything but to click a button to connect to you.
  4. Re: Ubuntu Server 7.10: OpenLDAP + SAMBA Domain Controller

I updated my client from 8.04 to 8.10. Everything is still running fine except one little thing: sudo.

Upgrade went well. I had installed the beta of Hardy...
  8. Re: Ubuntu Server 7.10: OpenLDAP + SAMBA Domain Controller

I edited my /etc/hosts and added the server's name an ip there. Not nice, but it works fine. And it's no problem because I only have one Ubuntu client, the others are all on WinXP.

    My Hardy-Server...

    domain example.local

    Should be OK, I don't have a clue. If i do a

  10. Re: Ubuntu Server 7.10: OpenLDAP + SAMBA Domain Controller

    Hi Richard,

first of all I want to thank you for this great guide.

Second, I can tell you that your guide works with Ubuntu 8.04 LTS as well. Just installed a DC with 8.04 this weekend, and it...

Re: Beryl crashes gdesklets in Fiesty!

I have exactly the same problem. As long as I use Metacity or Compiz, it works fine, but as soon as I start Bery, the desklets disappear. After restarting gdesklets-daemon, the desklets appear again,...
