OK. I got rid of those ridiculous number of partitions. I reinstalled ubuntu. Now, the booting and logging in takes less than 50s.

I created these partitions a long time back. I think it had to do with a partition manager, which wouldn't let me add that chuck.

This is what I have currently. I am going to reuse it. root (hd0,1) - means to load from 2nd partition. Am I right? I guess I should be able to get it done by trial and error once grub is ready.

While booting my laptop, the file system check takes more than a 90 seconds (out of 2-3 min boot time). Most of the time spent is on partition /dev/sda1 of size 45 MB with some DELL utility files....

It used to work great in Intrepid. Since upgrading to Jaunty, same thing is happening to me. Keeps asking for the password and finally errors out(doesn't infinite loop).

Now out of nowhere, auto mount has started to work.
