So, to make sure I understand, you don't want to install linux on your internal disk but want to boot off the external usb drive?
Or is it temporary just for the 3.2 kernel?
Lots. Most of them related to the i915 power management (see below). Note that I am booting efi direct (no grub). I'm using refind as the efi bootloader. I am also using systemd, and using archlinux...
3.6-rc6 is running smoothly for me (no additional patch).
vga_switcheroo enabled (although I'm using only the intel graphics), good power management (11-13W), bluetooth listed in rfkill (haven't...
Well, it doesn't really "work" for me either, but it's a step in the right direction.
For bluetooth, you have to apply this patch: http://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-bluetooth/msg26954.html

Guys,
What an active thread !
Well, I have some news about the microphone.
Booting with
options snd-hda-intel model=imac27
in a modprobe.d conf file gives access to new inputs: line in,...
Yes, thanks for the very complete report and hints gw280.
Same here than bfroemel: no issues with distortions with the intel driver.
b43 is flaky for me only when I'm too close to the wireless...
Oh, that's no surprise. X has rarely got my dpi right...but just startx - --dpi xxx and you're rolling (or set it in an xorg conf file or in your .xinitrc).
That's a very good question. I...
Nope, the intel is not controlling the HDMI output, just the nvidia. I haven't checked the HDMI output yet, but now I'm curious.
You mean with nvidia? Last I tried, it didn't work with the nvidia...
What I don't get is why we don't have the same problem.
Nope, not seen here. Might be systemd related?
I can confirm that, although xrandr list the VGA as one of the output when using the intel driver, pluging in an external connector doesn't list anything available under the VGA1 output.
Bummer.
I iuse another distro, but I assume the ubuntu install images come with GRUB. You can add these parameters in the grub entry (select the corretc line and hit tab).
Yes, USB stick. and don't forget the nointremap and nomodeset boot kernel option when booting the installer, otherwise it doesn't boot.
Good luck.
I was able to display on external monitor with the nvidia blob. hotplug ok, but it's because it understands the connector as a minidisplay port, not a thunderbolt connector.
I haven't tried with...
@Baughn
There is no installation CD. This hardware is very new and not yet supported by the latest stable kernel, notwithstanding the latest ubuntu kernel.
If you don't know how to build a...
Solved. I didn't have
none /sys/kernel/debug debugfs defaults 0 0
in my fstab. Thus nothing at all was showing up in /sys/kernel/debug (I'm using arch, apparently this is done...
bfroemel, Thanks for the consolidated list of patches.
I tried it. It applies cleanly (a few hunks for apple-gmux but went through ok).
Now I have 3.6 + the 21 patches you listed.
i915 and nouveau...
Thanks. I get some build error "unknown field 'client_active'.."
No worries. I'll survive with a perfectly working version using fixgpu for now. I guess all this should land in 3.7 eventually.
OK. I believe I have everything (except BlueDragonX nouveau patch).
But something is wrong. First, I realised I didn't have a /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch
Investigating, I found this in...
That would be on 3.6-rc1? and on top of your apple-gmux?
Excellent. Thanks for the pointer.
Great. Will try that. Cheers.
duh...
I should have thought of it when writing (2).
the noirq delays are also due to the fact that the kernel probe for the graphic card and it's powered off!
same solution:
# lspci | grep VGA...
On a related topic: As bfroemel, I do experience sometimes resume delays. I have noticed 2 things in dmesg:
1) very large noirq resume device times:
Aug 14 14:47:35 localhost kernel: [...
OK, thanks to your work, I got it to work (i915 and switch off nvidia, which is what I wanted to do; I am now burning only ~13.5W instead of the 23+ before when using the discrete card).
Again,...
Guys,
Impressive work !
However I am a bit lost here. You guys have been following your thread, difficult to follow for a newcomer in the discussion. Could one of you confirm:
- The kernel...
