    Re: Suggestions for beginners

The function of the applications and its relation to the format of output (since Dreamweaver handles PHP + HTML) is exactly the same and the comparison remains valid.

    Re: Suggestions for beginners

It's not without gain at all.

Think of it like this: Dreamweaver is for all intents and purposes an IDE, just with a slightly different focus than most IDEs (in that it can do WYSIWYG type stuff),...

    Re: Suggestions for beginners

Automated code refactoring is probably the single worst thing to have been invented in the IDE; it outright encourages sloppy coding practice with the knowledge that "Well, the machine can fix my...

    Re: Suggestions for beginners

Use a good tool for coding. Don't rely on a bulky IDE to do most of the grunt work for you because you should have a grounding in those concepts. They don't make life easier in the long run, at all.
  5. Re: [Idea] Integrate PolicyKit and PackageKit

Synpatic is not distribution agnostic. For the sake of not confusing users and not making more work for each distribution's developers, having one unified system that is the same across all...

    Fantastic!
  8. Re: [Idea] Integrate PolicyKit and PackageKit

It would replace all of the above, as the new GUI for PackageKit is simple enough for anyone to use.

Fairly straightforward. It's reportedly about half-way complete as-is.

    Because it...
  9. [Idea] Integrate PolicyKit and PackageKit

Without spending too much time focusing on other, more minor details, PolicyKit and PackageKit are two libraries that offer extremely well-designed control from an administrative perspective, as well...

    1. The notification area is NOT to be used as some ubiquitous dump for every application. It has specific uses, and applications that don't actively notify the user of events don't belong there.

Re: Did Anybody Else Get the New Radiohead Album Today?

    The box set includes:
2 vinyls (album + bonus disc)
2 cds (album + bonus disc)
    artwork
    lyrics book
    some other junk
  13. Re: For "Ubuntu Art Team"...or whoever does the wallpaper and stuff for Ubuntu...

    That's not an excuse.

Because for all those magazines that will review Ubuntu, and all those people who will try it and due to a mess of small reasons decide it isn't for them, the default artwork...

As for some of the wonderful... opinions... earlier in the thread: to deny the Beatles' influence on _any_ genre of music since shows a complete lack...

    Re: What's an easy language?

A and C are correct. B is subjective. D is again misunderstanding what the article (which I've not had time to look for) is saying.

Again, the article stated that the number of Perl, PHP, and...

    Ruby cannot do this either.

First and foremost, you are entirely misrepresenting what I've said. I said the article cited decline in the number of PHP, Perl, and Python programmers, while a vast growth in the number of Ruby...

    Re: What's an easy language?

Ruby is not the only language to require proper setters and getters, nor is it the only language to employ a strict OO model.

    And for good reason too.
