The System76 drivers also work just fine in Xubuntu with no hacking.
Xubuntu is based on xfce4 which is very much like using
Ubuntu several releases back only better.

If you install the PUEL version instead of the OSE version there will be USB support.
The OSE version which is open does not support USB.
THe PUEL version is free (as in beer) but it is not open,...
I agree, but what's even better, with Linux you have a choice.
I don't much like Unity, but I love Xubuntu with xfce4.

It's just reading well commented Python source, nothing magic.
It's open source, it's intended to be read by anyone, not exactly reverse engineering.
The only reason i can think of that someone...
I don't know, but you might be on to something.
It might not be erasing your home directory or some
other config files.
If you have stuff stored in your home directory you should
back that up...
I burned the latest Ubuntu CD, Ubuntu-11.04-desktop-i386.iso,
and booted to it.
Sure enough no Java was installed.
But, libreoffice was installed and it worked fine.
It must contain enough...
One more thing to look at.
openoffice/libreoffice is written mostly in C++ but there are some Java components.
I think com::sun::star::uno::RuntimeException is a Java runtime error.
My runtime...
What happens if you run the libreoffice binary directly like this:
/usr/lib/libreoffice/program/oosplash.bin
It will be a little crippled if it does open, but if it does,
it will help narrow...
Those files it can't delete may be the problem.
Here is what I got:
sudo rm -rfv .libreoffice* | tee rm.txt
removed `.libreoffice/3/user/basic/Standard/Module1.xba'

[QUOTE=flo1805;11170521]so now i did the following:

Mine are identical:
17:58:14 ~ find .libreoffice -maxdepth 3 -exec ls -ld {} \;
drwxr-xr-x 3 dad dad 4096 2011-04-03 14:39 .libreoffice
drwx------ 3 dad dad 4096 2011-08-19 17:55 .libreoffice/3...
From your home directory copy and paste this command
find .libreoffice -maxdepth 3 -exec ls -ld {} \;
and see if anything belongs to root.

Sure.
But I think if you look closely, one of them is:
(ALL) NOPASSWD: ALL
That is from your earlier post.
That line should be:
(ALL : ALL) ALL
I agree with Dave.
The big question is how did it get changed.
You can fix it easily, but make sure you know your password
or you won't be able to use sudo after you fix it.
Use
sudo...
If you just post the output of sudo -l it may show something.
This is what mine looks like:
15:42:32 ~ sudo -l
Matching Defaults entries for dad on this host:
!env_reset, !secure_path,...
To see what options are set:
sudo -l
that is -l as in list
To change them:
sudo visudo
To learn about them:
man sudo
The desktop I dual-boot is running Ubuntu Lucid Lynx 10.04 & Windows 7.
I don't remember changing anything other than that one entry.
If I find anything else I changed I'll let you know.

sudoedit /etc/default/rcS
or use your editor of preference, but you have to have root permissions
change UTC=yes to UTC=no

I'm talking about getting the latest hardware.
I like to be able to use it a while before it gets obsolete LOL

If the choice is supporting bleeding edge hardware or
supporting an older operating system,
I'll take the bleeding edge.
Computers age fast enough to begin with,
might as well start with the...
Yeah, our Daru2s are getting a little long in tooth, but it's still a good little laptop to take on trips.
I've got a Color Nook I put CyanogenMod-7 on & it makes a great Android machine for...
I've left my Daru2 on Lucid 10.04 LTS so I can't say if mine acts the same.
I have tried Unity on some other computers & just can't warm up to it.
I think Gnome is probably going in the same...
I had a similar problem once.
I had an extra entry in /etc/resolv.conf that was bogus.
It spent time looking for the bogus DNS (Domain Name Server) before it used the real one.
I don't know...
It comes with network-manager.
