  1. Ethernet over Thunderbolt: Consistent packet loss after reboot

    Hello there,

I am running 20.04 with the HWE kernel on a Tiger Lake Intel NUC 11th gen. I am using Thunderbolt to connect to a NAS - both are doing Ethernet over Thunderbolt. While this generally...

  3. Kernel updates: Packages held back all the time

    Hello,

whenever I do an apt-get upgrade and there are new kernel packages, apt seems to hold them back:

    Reading package lists... Done

[ubuntu] Re: Where is KVM's default bridge config?

Thanks, going to check out that book. Also, Shorewall looks interesting.

As for LTS vs non-LTS: Sure thing. However, this is just my lab to learn stuff. So I figured I'd go with the newest release...

[ubuntu] Re: Where is KVM's default bridge config?

Agreed. Networking needs some improvements here. Open vSwitch looks interesting, but doesn't really address what we were discussing.

Yes, I am running the firewall on the host, not the guests.

[ubuntu] Re: Where is KVM's default bridge config?

    ESXi, vSphere etc.

Sure it is a firewall. But even if you allow some traffic, it won't pass it on a bridge. It's a documented "bug". You need to add some stuff to sysctl.conf to make iptables...
  7. [ubuntu] UFW firewall: /etc/sysctl.conf vs. /etc/ufw/sysctl.conf

    Hi,

usually you enable things like IP forwarding in /etc/sysctl.conf. Now I read through the UFW firewall documentation, and regarding to that, it has it's own sysctl.conf file in /etc/ufw.

    Why...

[ubuntu] Re: Where is KVM's default bridge config?

Thanks. I am coming from a VMware background and the security issue is the same there. Common sense is needed when configuring virtual machines :)

Right now I am also struggeling with getting UFW...

[ubuntu] Re: Where is KVM's default bridge config?

Ok, so I found some more information.

virbr0 is the default bridge in KVM. It's not usermode, it's a real bridge, and it does NAT for the guests. The backend is bridge-utils (aka Linux bridges). ...

[ubuntu] Re: Where is KVM's default bridge config?

    Thanks!

Did you install kvm from the Ubuntu repository? What did you do with the bridge virbr0 that the package created?

What's really odd is that even the official Ubuntu server documentation...

[ubuntu] Where is KVM's default bridge config?

    Hi,

after installing KVM on Ubuntu 12.10, there is a default bridge virbr0 on the system. Where is the configuration file for that?

Reason I am asking: I am trying to get a handle on KVM and...
  12. [ubuntu] UFW interfering with my LXC containers

    Hi,

as soon as I enable the UFW firewall with one simple rule (allow tcp/22), my LXC containers can no longer aqquire IP addresses via DHCP (through the lxc-bridge). Any hints?

    Thanks
  13. [ubuntu] LXC: no IPv4 in container when UFW firewall is enabled

    Hi,

I have a strange problem with LXC (default configuration from Ubuntu 12.10 packages). Containers get their IP addresses via DHCP, probably provided through the lxcbridge. As soon as I enable...
