Hello dachinster,
you could try a deletion of those two files:
/var/cache/apt/pkgcache.bin
/var/cache/apt/srcpkgcache.bin
and then run again sudo apt-get update
You might also find some...
Hello Capink,
hm, it seems that this structure is as it should be:
/media/ext4-external/cd/
├── boot
│ ├── grub
│ │ └── grub.cfg
│ ├── initrd.img
│ ├── memtest86+.bin
│ └──...
Yes I really like this kind of booting an iso, also posted a link to your thread
within drs305 iso boot thread at:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1549847&page=18
I hope that his thread...
Okay I think that is why we got such a nice build from you.
I have to say that I played a little with Fedora but at the moment gnome3 is working very well here at your distro. Yes the gnome3 really...
The USB plug-idea is a very good solution, what would happen if grub2 is already installed on sda and during a new installation maybe grub is installed onto an empty sda8 partition?
Okay thank you, please have again a look at my last post at http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=11181015&postcount=1610, as the site no. has changed you might not have noticed it.
Thanks, this seems really to be a very uninteresting file with states in like:
<application id="nautilus.desktop" open-window-count="0"
score="189" last-seen="1314146518"/>
Maybe a score of...
Hello cbowman57,
I am having a lot of fun with your Direct download gNatty Gnome amd64 v3 from
16th of July 2011, it is working really nice, sometimes the login striked but after the next reboot...
Hello capink I hope it's replaced the right way.
The time sticking it together was a great pleasure as it seems that
I am a very good friend :) of working guides from beginning to end.
Capink, I...
Hello there, here is another one, you should give it a try,
I really like this amazing Linux-Project. Thanks to Patrick Verner
for realizing Parted Magic, it seems to be the best solution for...
Note: Replace natty with your favorite version name. e.g. maverick
Copy the following files to have internet access within the chroot environment:
for i in /etc/resolv.conf /etc/hosts...
It again works like a charm as my root-partition is labeled "ubuntu-root-p6"
the menuentry of the "/boot/grub/grub.cfg" is now set to:
As we spoke earlier the label-thing gives us a lot more...
Hell drs305,
I have another question, maybe you can help me again with that:
In order to get rid of the uuid checking from grub2 and use lable-checking
instead I am not sure in which kind I...
Yes, thank you that is an important information for any kind of package you might install from a newer build.
We should all keep that in mind because sometimes there could be newer working packages...
Hello Lewis,
this is just a small mistake, you should enter into the path you created for the packages by:
cd ~/dpkg-repack
just open your terminal and type that in, you should then get...
After getting rid of startupmanager and installing grub-customizer I decided to try to update my grub2 version just as you said, everything happened just as predicted: "sudo apt-get install -s...
Oh that is not a good thing so I am a little lucky that it was just tested on the 10.04 LTS. Sorry for the useless information.
I will then better refer to the grub-customizer by:
Thanks.

Hello,
I just wanted to post a small thing which might help you to control the grub2's display a little easier:
sudo apt-get install startupmanager
startupmanager
Thank you Quackers, this one works like a charm, I just replaced the uuid by the label=name.
It installed without any difficulties, all on just one hd, very nice.
Fedora 15 was just installed...
Yes, we have to learn the exact syntaxes again, but hopefully grub3 will
come in the same periode of time. So we can use the new knowledge
for many many years :)
Gonzalo_VC, maybe you missed the...
Thank you for this very useful additional information,
I also found something which might help us in some cases.
from here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1470874
Did you try...
Yeah, of cause that was what I wanted to say by 'volume-names'
these are just labels as I also think that uuid's will get us confused sometime.
Another question is if it would be possible to tell...
Yeah, great! That's the way to do it.
As we then would have an extended partition with five or more
/boot /root & /home partitions won't affect what we want,
I would then prefer volume-names in...
Yes okay that is a way, hm I have to reinstall it but I think that the option was in there.
I will check that.
But if Ubuntu does not have this option it should be one of the last Distros
which...
