    [ubuntu] cannot wipe ipod clean

I am having this peculiar problem where my ipod shuffle is shown to be at 100% copacity, but as far as I can tell there are no files on it. In fact, I wanted to completely remove ALL files from the...

    Re: simple html question (navbar)

One "practical" motivation is that I'd like to be able to put my site content on a thumb drive and then plug it into any computer and edit it and view it locally. Using PHP or SSI would require the...

    Re: simple html question (navbar)

On second thought, I think I might just hack this.... For some reason, I feel inclined to keep everything entirely in HTML. I think I'll write a "template.html" file with the basic format for each...

    Re: simple html question (navbar)

Thanks for the tips! I think SSI might be the way to go. I'll look into using frames as well, but I think SSI might be a tad simpler.

I think it's odd that this basic function was never built...

    Re: Perl program

if you're wondering why this particular solution doesn't work, it's because the pattern search stops after the first match. You can find every match in the string by adding a g after the last...

    Do you hack?

I'm not sure if this should be in the backyard, but I'll start it here. Anyway, I'm just curious about hacking. I am not a hacker. On occasion I have found a work around to an intentionally placed...

  12. Re: December 2006 Desktop Thread (Safe for Work content only)

    Hey,

Does anyone know what app is running on the right side of Loke's desktop? It looks pretty cool; I'd like to play around with it.

    THanks
  13. Re: December 2006 Desktop Thread (Safe for Work content only)

    Thanks!
I should have tried that in the first place. For some reason, I thought JPEGs were large like PNGs.

    Here's my first desktop post
  14. Re: December 2006 Desktop Thread (Safe for Work content only)

    it's a .png.
I just used the "take screenshot" option.
  15. Re: December 2006 Desktop Thread (Safe for Work content only)

I wish I could.... TOO BIG!! I tried using imageshack too...
I suppose i could try resizing and reducing the quality.
  16. Re: December 2006 Desktop Thread (Safe for Work content only)

bah my screenshots are too big
  17. Re: Weekly Programming Contest - Friday, Dec 1, 2006

Should we be trying to do this in the smartest most efficient way? (ie a one liner in perl)

Or are we going for something creative and unexpected (like a solution in machine language?)

I suggest Spybot Search & Destroy. It's free and works very well. Super fast too.
  23. Re: What antivirs, anti-ad, anti-spyware, etc. software do you use?

I was referring to what someone else said: "a NAT router plus the Windows Firewall is perfectly adequate". In that case, I think the NAT router is adequate. I used to strongly believe in using some...
  24. Re: What antivirs, anti-ad, anti-spyware, etc. software do you use?

I wouldn't even bother with Windows Firewall. Honestly, I've used XP for a year now without a firewall and it's been fine. As long as you have updated AV and use the internet wisely, you'll be fine.
  25. What antivirs, anti-ad, anti-spyware, etc. software do you use?

I'm just wondering what types of software people run on different machines. For example:

On my Windows XP machine, I run Symantec Corporate 10 and Adaware Professional. I also use Spysweeper...
