I use Unity Tweak Tool to use the screen edges.
When I restart my computer nothing happens when I push the mouse pointer into the screen edges, unless I start Unity Tweak Tool, look at the screen...
In eight years with Ubuntu I've never had an upgrade work properly. And I don't use bleeding edge stuff, no dodgy repos etc. Just tried it again with 15.04 and got the usual result - really buggy...
Upgraded to 15.04 today, under KDE.
Generally fairly painless, everything worked out of the box except for sound and that's down to my hardware (for reasons I can't be bothered to explain, this...
This has done it :)
I'd forgotten about posting this thread and have just been putting up with it until now but THANK YOU.
Evening all,
I need to do some work on my Frankenbox, as a few bits of it are falling apart. First order of business is to replace my graphics card, as I'm getting some odd symptoms which suggest...
Zombie thread resurrection!
I've been using mplayerthumbs for ages, with no problem.
I recently upgraded from Natty to Pangolic, had too many issues (including an inability to get video...
This has been logged as a bug but obviously hasn't been fixed yet. In the meantime, does anyone have a workaround? Maybe a config file I can edit?
Certain transition effects run ludicrously...
Thanks for the replies, but I have figured it out!
The config file is ~/.kde/share/config/plasma-desktoprc. I renamed that, changed the settings and now it keeps them - that file must have been...
Afternoon all,
Just done a clean, fresh install of Kubuntu 12.04 and been setting it up the way I like it.
Just one issue - the Desktop Settings (right-click on the desktop and click desktop...
Well, I don't know what you guys did, but it works now... I haven't changed anything, I had rebooted several times, so no clues whatsoever!
Thanks for the link Raja but I didn't see anything...
Bumpity bump, as I've fallen off the front page!
Anyone got any ideas?
I don't know if the other USB devices are working or not, it's a bit difficult to test without a mouse.
Morning all,
Kubuntu 11.04, fully updated, Fujitsu-Siemens PC, plenty of RAM, free hard drive space etc. Dual boots with Windows XP.
All of a sudden, my mouse has stopped working under...
That's done it, thank you very much indeed!
Getting there...
I can now view my PC from the laptop in the terminal.
How do I see it in a file manager window on the desktop? I know there's a way because I've done this before but I can't...
I have a modern desktop machine with a large hard drive running Kubuntu 11.04 and an old laptop with not much hard drive space running Lubuntu 11.10. I would like to be able to access files on the...
Thanks for the answer. I was also very surprised that the computer boots at all!
BIOS settings checked, and hyper-threading is on. I hadn't changed anything in the BIOS recently, anyway.

Well, this is a bit of a weird one. My machine used to have twin CPUs, and now it only appears to have one. It's still working fine and in normal desktop use I haven't noticed the difference - I...
I've resolved this, and thought I'd post the solution in case it helps anyone else.
I tried to find out which update was causing the problem by applying them a few at a time and restarting the...
I tried out 11.10, didn't like it, and re-installed 11.04 from the same CD that I burned at the time.
No problem with the re-installation, but in the six months since 11.04 came out one of the...
Gimp 2.6, as supplied with Kubuntu. I've never used it, Girlfriend just wants to use it to add watermarks to photos that she puts on her blog.
Thanks AlphaLexman, that worked. It gives an error...
Kubuntu Natty Narwhal, modern hardware, bit of a Frankenbox.
Two user accounts on this machine. I've had it for a while, and I've recently added an account for my girlfriend to use.
No...
Elianto wins the thread!
Thank you so much.
Bump :)
Maybe someone can recommend an alternative to System Monitor, which might allow me to see what process is doing this?
Strigi was my first thought too, but suspending file indexing or quitting altogether makes no difference at all :(
