I don't think there's much hope for that. I asked on the rt2x00 mailinglist where they told me to ask at the linux-bluetooth list. I did that but got no answer.

Just go to System Settings -> Additional Drivers and remove the ATI Catalyst drivers. The open source drivers will automatically load after that.
The only solution I know of is to use the open source graphics drivers.

I got exactly the same problem without the Seagate disk. Will try the older kernel as you suggest. Are you aware if a bug report has been filed?
