  1. [ubuntu] forcing grayscale on Lexmark X544 printer

    Hello,

After converting a friend to Ubuntu, their only complaint is that there's no way to make the Lexmark X544 color printer use grayscale.

We've tried both the drivers that come with Ubuntu...

    [ubuntu] deafening static in Skype

    Hello,

I have been told that during Skype calls, my machine suddenly starts transmitting deafening static / white noise. This happens anywhere from a few seconds to several (up to ~30) minutes...

[ubuntu] Re: vgaswitcheroo: trouble at shutdown

I've been using your (original) rc.local on my 3820TG for about a week now, quite successfully: I haven't encountered any of the issues you describe (yet?), and it has significantly increased battery...

[ubuntu] Re: vgaswitcheroo: trouble at shutdown

Thanks for posting this! I'll give it a try and report back (will probably take a few days to get a reliable impression).

I'm not an expert, but won't that sleep there delay startup? I doubt...

[ubuntu] Re: random system freeze - relevant logs?

I'm afraid not. IIRC, it just stopped freezing at some point - not sure whether that was related to a distro upgrade or anything like that.

[SOLVED] Re: desktop resolution reset after system update (Intel)

I don't rarely use suspend, but it does work here.
Closing the lid just blanks the screen for me (that's how I set it up IIRC).

[SOLVED] Re: desktop resolution reset after system update (Intel)

    It's basically cargo-culting; I didn't really know what I was doing...
However, I'm now using the standard Karmic setup (no custom /etc/X11/xorg.conf), which works fine.

I would also be interested in customizing the threshold for charging the battery, but couldn't find a solution so far.

[SOLVED] desktop resolution reset after system update (Intel)

When I booted up my laptop (HP Compaq 2510p - specs) this morning, the desktop resolution was limited to 1024x768 (normal is 1280x800), with no way to reset it in the Display Preferences dialog.
