    I have same problem, but just fixed success.
    1. Restart Ubuntu
    2. When system load menu 1...2.., press Esc key
    3. Replace 2.6.31-14 with 2.6.31-20 and Boot continus (press b)

    sound as you have load fail kernel for ubuntu 9.10. Plz provide detail error messages!
