I found a sort of workaround though: when I need to access a SD card, I boot of my old maverick kernel, then it works.

If ps doesn't pick up what is using the cpu then I'd assume it must be something in the kernel. I had freezes that was caused by swapping;
and my overheating cpu didn't help either - after cleaning...
As far as I can tell, that package is not availible on ubuntu 64bit :(
I might have to use picasa...

I got it working by copying the vmmon.tar
from my vmware source
to the patch
and then ran...
this forum helped me a lot but it was a little incoherent and outdated, so here is the steps that worked for me (mostly copied from other posts):
* sudo apt-get install apache2 php5 php5-dev
