Is there any one using ubuntu in San Jose? Is SF the only loco in the bay area? I am car free:D and have to get around using mass transit so I'm kind of restricted to buses and my two feet.
For a work around untill someone smarter than I can fix your problem, I suggest that you edit your sources list manually through the terminal.

USB formatted to Fat32
Unmount USB
In terminal: sudo dd if=/path/to/iso/ubuntu-10.04-desktop-i386.iso of=/dev/sdX bs=4M
sudo sync
