From your post it looks like you entered your local lan IP into dyndns.
yourname.dyndns.com should resolve to the IP your router obtained from your ISP. It will be something other than 192.168.x.x...
2nd vote for Sneakers (1992), very under appreciated movie.
It's not that it "pulls what it needs". Header files are needed only during the compilation process (like MadCow108 said above) and they don't end up in the executable.

Be sure to check out the command line options if you run into issues with the gui.
Personally I like rsync for backups (rather than tar and gz).
That way only files that changed get copied over.
rsync -avt /srcdir /destdir
The first time you run it it will copy everything....
