From the bug reports it must bee thousands of users. Think Ubuntu could bee more helpful here.
I tried the bug #999910 advice: upgrade to 3.2.0-27-generic #43-Ubuntu:

Same problem with total freeze, no contact to system, not even the reset button works. Have to shutdown with power button and restart.
Happens randomly, bur so far (new build) only in firefox.

Just tested to Upgrade from kubuntu 9.10 to 10.4 an got a black screen probobly because the modified Xsetup file.
