did you confirm that it changed your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and the resolution you want is present before and after shutdown?

Ok, here is what I found and it worked for me perfectly.

Ok, I just look at my xorg.conf and this time it is "nvidia" I guess this installation I didn't have to edit that. I will try to adjust mine and see if mine saves.

What worked for me was putting "nv" in Xorg.conf instead of "nvidia". But that was for 8.04 and 8.10 I believe
