Have you tried installing the newer 2.6.30 kernel and see if it works?

No it is not a beta, as you can see from help --> about shiretoko, it is the 3.5 final.
Yes, I just checked and found out that firefox 3.5 is already in jaunty updates, so we don't need to add any...
):P Don't use the tarball... installing it from deb packages is always better

I think it won't replace your old firefox 3.0.
