Just to follow up on this issue, I was able to get my 12.10 maas install working, so I won't be needing any help with this.
I think it has to do with using 12.04 maas with juju that is expecting an api that didn't exist in that version of maas. I could be totally wrong, though.

I just wanted to post and say that 12.04 ended up not working out well for me. PXE would not work (which I posted in another thread). And then I couldn't get juju to get status properly in 12.04...
