    Are you sure that these progs are using libdvdread and not their internal versions? mplayer for instance has to be told to use the external version explicitly, otherwise it defaults to using it's own...

    Having exactly the same problem on mint and debian, the svn version seems to be ok but only uses a bitmap font for the subtitles and seems to ignore ~/.mplayer/subfont.ttf

    Any ideas?

    Renaming sudo probably not a good idea as lots of scripts use it, if you are worried about security make sure you have a properly configured firewall and a strong password and you should be ok.

    Tried h264enc, horrendous to use! the script falls over when it doesn't like an input and you have to start again, then mencoder fell over ( never had much luck with mencoder, I prefer ffmpeg )....
