  3. [ubuntu] What should we users do immediately about the heartbleed heartbeet openssl saucy flaw

I just belatedly found out about the heartbeat openssl bug (http://heartbleed.com).

Affected versions: OpenSSL versions from 1.0.1 to 1.0.1f.
The vulnerability has been fixed in OpenSSL 1.0.1g.

  4. [SOLVED] Re: How do we auto-hide the top menu of the default Ubuntu 13.10 desktop?

Thanks for letting me know. I'll just live with the panel then. Too bad. But, such is life. I do appreciate the advice.
    I guess that's why I couldn't find a way (because there isn't a way, short of...
  5. [ubuntu] Re: Privacy threat due to 2 out-of-the-box bugs in ubuntu 13.10 Unity Tor Browser

OK. I will snapshot a run on Windows and then another run on Ubuntu and show the difference and attach the screenshots to the bug report.
  6. [SOLVED] Re: How do we auto-hide the top menu of the default Ubuntu 13.10 desktop?

Well, that answers the question as to why I can't autohide it.
    Can I remove it easily?
And then put it back when it's needed?
  7. [ubuntu] Re: Privacy threat due to 2 out-of-the-box bugs in ubuntu 13.10 Unity Tor Browser

All three scenarios are bad on ubuntu:
    1. Using both Tor Browser Bundle & native Fireofox (they're mixed up together)
    2. Using just Tor (you don't know if you're using Tor or if you're using...
  8. [ubuntu] Re: Privacy threat due to 2 out-of-the-box bugs in ubuntu 13.10 Unity Tor Browser

I apologize that I just saw this, so, it's good that we agree that this "issue" can easily compromise a Ubuntu user's identity (and it's a usability issue even without that as a repercussion).
    So,...
  9. [ubuntu] Re: Privacy threat due to 2 out-of-the-box bugs in ubuntu 13.10 Unity Tor Browser

Thanks for explaining, because, for a second there, I had thought that Canonical might have a tested repo for the Tor Browser Bundle (which would have been welcomed with open arms).

    Yes. I shall...
  10. [ubuntu] Re: Privacy threat due to 2 out-of-the-box bugs in ubuntu 13.10 Unity Tor Browser

The only comment in the Ubuntu bug report said to file it to Tor, so, as always dutifully following instructions, I ran a search, and didn't find the bug reported, so, I then filed the bug report...
  11. [SOLVED] Re: For privacy, how do we auto-hide the top menu of the default Ubuntu 13.10 desktop

I appreciate the response, but I don't understand the question.
I asked my friends what Linux distro to use for a basic desktop user, and they said Ubuntu.
So, I installed the latest Ubuntu.
    I'm...

[SOLVED] Re: vidalia/firefox: unable to input text

It appears to be "something" in Debian, but nobody knows for sure, apparently, from my read of the bug report.

Here's the latest append, to that bug, for example:
    -----< quote >-----
    Is anyone...
  13. [SOLVED] How do we auto-hide the top menu of the default Ubuntu 13.10 desktop?

I've easily enabled the auto-hide feature of the side launcher, so, now I just need to enable the auto-hide feature of the top menu.

    But how?
  14. [ubuntu] Re: Privacy threat due to 2 out-of-the-box bugs in ubuntu 13.10 Unity Tor Browser

How it was installed was described in the bug report but I'll repeat here, the installation procedure is simply to untar the package.
    That's it.

Nothing more than that, is all you should EVER...
  15. [ubuntu] Re: Privacy threat due to 2 out-of-the-box bugs in ubuntu 13.10 Unity Tor Browser

Well, that's an interesting question, if only, the answer was assumed to be that it doesn't exist in the Canonical repo.
Does a Tor Browser Bundle actually EXIST in the Canonical repo?
    (If so,...
  16. [ubuntu] Re: Privacy threat due to 2 out-of-the-box bugs in ubuntu 13.10 Unity Tor Browser

I have multiple computers. Not all operating systems at all locations. When I was reporting the bug, I wasn't on ubuntu. Probably 10% of the time I'm on Ubuntu, the rest on Windows.
    Of course,...

So, they said to figure out what package is causing the problem.
    Does anyone know?

[SOLVED] Re: vidalia/firefox: unable to input text

I couldn't find a bug report using Launchpad on this installation issue, so I filed one for the team:

  19. [ubuntu] Re: Privacy threat due to 2 out-of-the-box bugs in ubuntu 13.10 Unity Tor Browser

I appreciate your confidence in me, but, I only know what the bug 'is' and its repercussions. I don't know WHERE the bug lies.
Is it in the desktop? In Unity? In Ubuntu 13.10 only? In Nautilus? In...
  20. [ubuntu] Privacy threat due to 2 out-of-the-box bugs in ubuntu 13.10 Unity Tor Browser
