At first glance, these apps still require older dependencies (libs) versions to run.
You might glance at its /etc/apt/sources.list to be sure none of the entry lines are blacklisted
Have you tried to copy that faulty /home to an other device ? (do it from that other system device)
But keep in mind that the less done on that faulty hdd the better it is (despite you already have...
Better using commands into a terminal:
or install and use "bleachbit" as root but carefully select the jobs you want/need to run
Get a lemur name this time ):P
To increase your ubuntu's knowledge, glance at possible error(s) using this command into a terminal:
warnings are listed as yellow lines (info, quite harmless)
errors are the red lines
This...
Looks like a latin fonts encoding issue. Which language is set on that system ? Try one without dot or accent above letters (like English) for testing firefox.
Do you get some helpfull warnings/errors from 'journalctl -b' ?
By the way if no one blame Lo, devs will not pay attention; if Lo is not the right package, they will switch to the related package.
Let devs know about that issue: report against LO both on launchpad and upstream.
Lo is not perfect; myself on gnome, when i try to select rows & columns on calc, i often lost the first part before...

usb-creator (0.3.8) groovy; urgency=medium
* debian/control: Remove syslinux, syslinux-common,...
Just drag & drop the window you want to move. Glance at 'tweaks' 's windows setting, and set 'attach modal' to 'off'; and 'edge tiling' to 'on'

gimp (2.10.22-3) unstable; urgency=medium

Need to know about the installed DE and printer model, and how it is connected.
you might boot into recovery mode or try tty, then glance at 'journalctl -b' output into a terminal , for error (red line)
Maybe this will give you some ideas ):P https://discourse.ubuntu.com/c/desktop/ubuntu-unity-dev/19...
How much free space is available ? Do you use a swap directory or partition ? Maybe you should clean the system via autoclean/autoremove too.
Why are you using that 'unsigned' kernel ? It is used on 64 bit x86 SMP: is it the case for you system ? If not, then purge your kernel(s), and use/install instead linux-image-generic package.
Be sure to use a cleaned system: run autoclean/autoremove to get rid of old packages/settings left behind.
Reboot and look at "journalctl -b" output to know about possible errors (red lines) and...
New version coming with a fix

When starting Hirsute, without "quiet splash", the booting process goes well until ending to a black empty screen; the mouse and keyboard don't work at all.
Starting the recovery mode, startx ends...
Could be an electric interference, like a desktop light/modem/printer/usb reader ....
Mine works; have some warnings (yellow lines) but not errors (red lines from 'journalctl -b' output.
Be sure to only use 'hirsute' entries inside /etc/apt/sources.list
Avoid non genuine source...
