The problem was that grub didn't have enough space to install itself in the beginning of the disk, namely I had first partition starting on 19th sector whereas grub needs...
I have a small problem with booting to Ubuntu after my resizing and moving the partitions recently.
So I have 2 systems :
Windows 7 64 bit
Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit
I have a dual boot system with Windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.04 - both 64 bit. Windows is in the beginning of the disk and Ubuntu comes after it.
I have the same problem on Acer TravelMate 574G and the AlsaMixer "trick" does not help. Anyone has some ideas ?
Ok, so I have finally solved this issue. Here is how I did this:
I have indeed used TestDisk but not to repair the filesystem but to copy the data onto the external drive thanks to the restoring...
I did mute it and no difference :(

Thanks for the reply but what I understand from what you have written you suggest to erase the whole extended partition and remake it (empty of course) and I am just trying to recover the partition...
