I've set it up the way you wrote it down, installing also k3b (well, couple hundred MBs on kde are worthy with this great sw) and it works fine, testing with an existing 3.7GB .iso file at normal...

1. yes, the Ubuntu CDs do work properly. I've tried them on my laptop and they boot flawlessly.
