Not sure. But its on my drop down box of choices as the default. I know i did something years ago to add gnome back when it was taken out.
If I login with the default Unity desktop, it renders fine. If I pick a gnome desktop, it's back.
I use the Gnome Flashback (metacity) desktop. I'm not familiar with the wayland session. Is that what you asked?
I don't think so. Whatever Ubuntu installed. I've had Ubuntu and Chrome on this PC for years. This is the first time I saw this. I did see some posts on the google forum for windows PCs that...
With the recent software updates, my Google Chrome browser menu bar and tabs have fuzzy fonts. The portion that shows the website data seems OK, but the navigation bar and tabs look fuzzy and appear...
But then I have to completely delete and reinstall the OS, right? There are no settings I could tweak to make the 64 bit perform better?
These are the specs. I have 64 bit installed. And plenty of free space on the disk.

Yes, you are correct. My hard drive just spins and spins every time I switch windows or open/close something.
I've always run gnome and it was fine.
I update the system as Ubuntu prompts me to. I took a screen shot of the TOP command. Does it show you anything?

I use it primarily for web browsing and some light spreadsheet/document work. I would be happy to answer your questions if you can be more specific on how to check. Of the 56 gb hard drive 38 gb is...
Sorry to open a new thread, but the one I found that was relevant was closed.
I have an IBM T60 and I have run Ubuntu with Gnome as the desktop for years. But lately I have noticed it is running...
I apologize for the ignorance and I don't wish to appear ungrateful, but your questions are well beyond my knowledge of Unix. All I can say is that I have used Ubuntu on this PC for years and never...
Thanks you SO MUCH for that tip! I never heard of it and it worked. Now that I'm back up, do I rerun the software updater to pick up the remainder?
I'm running about a 175 mb update today on my Ubuntu installation. It got as far as 'setting up cups-bsd (2.0.2-lubuntu3.2) and it has been stuck there for awhile. My hard drive just spins and...
Thanks, but it wasn't clear to me what steps I should take. I did look in that grub file and it says GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
I also executed the sudo line you provided but it...
No problems, just a minor question. With prior versions, my laptop showed the word Ubuntu with dots underneath that turned purple/black as the laptop booted up. Showed the same when powering down. ...
If I browse that directory from Places, I only see icons and not file names. There is only one dropbox icon in there and no other dropbox files. If I open gedit and navigate to that directory, I...
That worked! Though I don't understand why and if you have a brief explanation I would like to hear it.
I tried to copy and paste the edited file into the applications directory, but I didn't...
There are no dropbox files in the .local location you specified. Mostly files for chrome.
Dropbox was already installed a long time ago before I moved to 15.04 and I don't recall if I got it from...
I only have one dropbox.desktop file and it's in the autostart directory you reference. I don't have the other one. Do I need to place one there?
I used dropbox with no issues until I moved to 15.04. I never was concerned about how it ran. The file edit is to fix a bug with displaying the status icon...that's all. I just don't understand...
Thanks for your suggestions! I did learn from another post that I can use gedit to open hidden files, so I was able to access the file through the gui without having to login as root or doing...
