  1. [gnome] Re: Patch to add "up" and "home" buttons to Nautilus toolbar

I take back what I said earlier. Not about moving away from Ubuntu (still doing that) but I will create a new patch just like the old ones for 12.04.

It turns out that the caja file manager from...
  2. [gnome] Re: Patch to add "up" and "home" buttons to Nautilus toolbar

This is why I've moved on to Linux Mint and the Mate desktop. I can't believe what's happened to Gnome and Ubuntu lately. I've been on Ubuntu since the days of Warty Warthog, over 7 years!

    You...
  3. [gnome] Re: Patch to add "up" and "home" buttons to Nautilus toolbar

If someone wants to package this and create a repo, please feel free. It would make things easier for a lot of people. I just don't have the time right now (in fact, I haven't even had access to my...
  4. [gnome] Re: Patch to add "up" and "home" buttons to Nautilus toolbar

    Thanks for that wojtalik.

Anyone can feel free to update the patches or instructions as needed. I haven't updated my system in a while and I may not upgrade to 12.04 at all.
  5. [gnome] Re: Patch to add "up" and "home" buttons to Nautilus toolbar

^^not sure what's going on, but I think you should make a new empty directory and try again with a fresh download of the nautilus source.

It's always best to start nice and clean when you're...
  6. [ubuntu] Re: Webcam: audio and video work separately, but not together

For future reference, the problem must have had something to do with the combination of this webcam and the motherboard or onboard sound. I tried the webcam in another computer running the same...
  7. [ubuntu] Webcam: audio and video work separately, but not together

I have a Logitech c525 webcam. It's a uvc webcam and should work out of the box. If I use cheese or some other program to look at the video, it works fine. If I open gnome-sound-recorder and...
  8. [gnome] Re: Patch to add "up" and "home" buttons to Nautilus toolbar

    ^^You're welcome !
  9. [gnome] Re: Patch to add "up" and "home" buttons to Nautilus toolbar

You lost those functions after the patch? I've never used F4 and F7 -- what do they do exactly? They don't seem to do anything on my installation even without the patch.
  10. [gnome] Re: Patch to add "up" and "home" buttons to Nautilus toolbar

Unfortunately I have no time to work on this right now, but take a look at the patches. The patch files have headings that identify the files that I had to change. Below the headings it shows the...
  11. [gnome] Re: Patch to add "up" and "home" buttons to Nautilus toolbar

Me too, that's why I sat down to make this patch. I rarely use the back and forward buttons.

Lately I feel like we've returned to the old days of linux, where you had to spend hours fixing...
  12. [gnome] Re: Patch to add "up" and "home" buttons to Nautilus toolbar

They should be pretty simple because all those functions are already in Nautilus. I don't know if I'll have time to do it myself, but if I ever get around to it, I'll post a patch.
  13. [gnome] Re: Patch to add "up" and "home" buttons to Nautilus toolbar

I noticed today that there is an update for nautilus. If you apply the update, it will overwrite your patched nautilus and you will have the crappy default toolbar again.

    If you happen update...
  14. [gnome] Re: Patch to add "up" and "home" buttons to Nautilus toolbar

When you "apt-get source nautilus" it will create a new folder called nautilus-3.2.1 containing the source code for nautilus. You have to move the patch file into that folder and apply the patch to...
  15. [gnome] Re: Patch to add "up" and "home" buttons to Nautilus toolbar

If nautilus is updated, it will overwrite the patched version.

There are numerous ways to handle this:

You could just go into the previously patched nautilus folder and run sudo make install...
  16. [gnome] Re: Patch to add "up" and "home" buttons to Nautilus toolbar

A new patch, this one adds the up button, the reload button, and the home button, like this:

    Re: Unity explained

Gnome 2 was not dead, that's utterly ridiculous. It was the best and most widely used desktop on linux. It's dead now, only because gnome developers dropped it to work on Gnome 3.

    c) is true,...
  18. [gnome] Re: Patch to add "up" and "home" buttons to Nautilus toolbar

Here is another patch the only adds the up button to the nautilus toolbar:

    Here is the result:

  19. [gnome] Re: Patch to add "up" and "home" buttons to Nautilus toolbar

So far so good. I've been using the patched version of nautilus heavily for a week and no problems at all.
  20. [gnome] Patch to add "up" button to Nautilus toolbar

When I upgraded to Oneiric, I was disappointed with the changes to Nautilus. Specifically, I didn't like the removal of the up button (up to parent folder) from the toolbar. I was also annoyed that...

[xubuntu] Re: Replace Thunar with Nautilus

Instead of changing symlinks, you could uninstall xfdesktop and add nautilus to your session start up list. It's been working well for me so far and won't get overwritten during updates.
  22. [photography] Re: New software for Linux RAW photo workflow, Darktable

I've been looking at ways to improve my digital photography workflow, so I checked out a bunch of software over the past few weeks. My current setup is UFRaw/Gimp.

I want to work on Linux,...

[ubuntu] Re: OpenGL apps fail after resuming from suspend

I should mention that glxgears does the same thing, it just says "Aborted" and terminates.

[ubuntu] Re: OpenGL apps fail after resuming from suspend

^^I tried running them in the terminal. I couldn't get any debugging info. Both just said "Aborted" and that was it.

I am hoping someone could give me some clues about this. Google searches...

[ubuntu] OpenGL apps fail after resuming from suspend

I'm using Ubuntu 9.04 (jaunty) with Nvidia driver version 173 and not using compiz.

I have suspend to RAM working, and resume works fine, except that when I try to start apps that use OpenGL after...
