Hi, I have an Ubuntu (Actually Edubuntu) network. Logins are handled by an LDAP server (Zentyal) set-up as in this thread https://forum.zentyal.org/index.php?topic=12925.0
This mostly works but...
additonal: the error report states sshd crashed with SIGSEGV in vfprintf()
I have an AMD 64 based installation of Edubuntu 12.04 in my classroom. There is also Zentyal file/authentication server on the network.
It is acting as a server / router to 30 raspberry pi computers...
Thanks again :-)
Thanks for that. Am in the UK but will look into an equivalent supplier. Out of curiosity is something like this advertised reconditioned server
Better than
From just looking at the...
Thanks for this.
So, eth0 to switch to 15 terminals on one side of room and eth1 to 15 terminals on the other side.
I will give it a go.
In terms of servers, currently I'm running the LTSP...
I understand it's best to keep 15 LTSP clients per 1000mbps sub net. I am trying to provide a network for 30 users simultaneously.
Is it feasible to do this using one "standard" Edubuntu LTSP...
A general - is it possible? question and perhaps more usefully, "how difficult would it be to ..."
If I have a Edubuntu LTSP server that's serving a collection of raspberry pi that can boot into...
How can I stop edubuntu from displaying a list of local users on the login screen ?
I want to be able to type in a username and password for ldap users instead.
Thanks
Using 12.04
I'm new to LDAP. I'm trying to make a simple network login authenticator.
I have used this guide https://help.ubuntu.com/12.04/serverguide/openldap-server.html but did not follow the...
I have made an LTSP server in the standard way using "Precise Pangolin" Edubuntu
It has 2 network cards with my LTSP network on eth1.
Currently I only have 2 raspberry pi's with berryboot...
Hmmm ... To access it's own subnet and the wider network, each server (Fred, Lovelace, et al) also needs 2 network interfaces? Then it's also able to act as a router? And I need to get my head around...
VLE
ip 192.168.0.254
sn 255.255.255.0
Class C Natural mask = 255.255.255.0
So, if I am using this. The subnet is a logical AND between ip and subnet mask
VLE

In an attempt to put both machines in the same subnet I tried
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet static
address 192.168.0.250
netmask 255.255.255.0
Pinging VLE from Fred now gives the response...
Adding this to interfaces on Fred
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet static
address 192.168.0.250
netmask 255.255.255.0
In an attempt to put both machines in the same subnet now gives...
Clearly I have some learning to do - being vaguely aware of subnets and what they are is one thing. Being able to make a network is entirely different.
Currently I am logging in directly to Fred and...
I've got that - as you say school uses 10.x.x.x. whereas I am using 192.168.x.x
I will read this more carefully later when I have time and check my understanding. In the meantime, thanks!
Scratch what I said earlier. Neither machine can see the other across the network. The lights on the switch are on which indicates there is a connection but I cant ping one machine across the...
Thanks for that.
I made those changes but "Fred" still cant access the internet.
The ip addr on eth1 "VLE" (from ip addr show) is 192.168.0.254/24
If I type the same command on Fred I get the same...
Yes, thats it!I can ping across from Fred to VLE across my own network, I'm not sure how to specifically ping eth0 or eth1. I hadn't realised I could do that.I've got three main issues.1) Time is...
Hi,
I am trying to create a network to replace the RM Windows network in my ICT department as it is not fit for purpose as far as teaching computer science is concerned.
I'm trying to set the...
