[ubuntu] Re: Do I need Swap?

4,5 GB would most likely be enough. That way you'd have enough space to hibernate even if the swap partition is being used.

[ubuntu] Re: Do I need Swap?

10 GB would be more than enough, you'd probably be ok with half of that. On the Windows 8 question I can't comment since I've never used it.

[ubuntu] Re: Do I need Swap?

If you plan on using suspend or hibernate you'll need swap space at least the size of your RAM

  6. Re: making the "quirk" options to pm-suspend permanent?

I tried the option --store-quirks-as-lkw but it didn't work reliably. Most likely it was because --quirk-vbe-post didn't solve the issue like I first thougt - apparently my computer can hibernate...
  7. Re: making the "quirk" options to pm-suspend permanent?

Thank you, I'll look into that.
  8. making the "quirk" options to pm-suspend permanent?

    Hi,

I have a Radeon 5800 series video card on my computer and the open source drivers seem to work much better than the ones supplied by AMD in all cases but one: resuming from suspend.

[ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu 11.10 on P4 1GB RAM slow

The "slowness" of Unity has supposedly been fixed for 12.04, or if you enable the 'proposed' repository.

  14. [ubuntu] Re: Excess heat and battery drain with Unbuntu 11.10

Those commands will only install the latest updates that has been made available for your Ubuntu release. We normally only get "minor version" updates (e.g. 3.0.0-12 -> 3.0.0-14) except for Firefox,...
  15. [gnome] Re: Synaptics touchpad options to be permanent.

  18. [SOLVED] Re: What to choose? Kubuntu/Ubuntu or?

If you have a spare USB stick I recommend using the tool Startup disk creator (I have my system in English so I can't remember the Swedish name) to make a bootable USB drive. Much faster than a CD :)
  19. [ubuntu] Re: Excess heat and battery drain with Unbuntu 11.10

  21. [gnome] Re: Synaptics touchpad options to be permanent.
