[ubuntu] Re: HP DM1Z freezes randomly

I've had this problem with ubuntu 11.10, 12.04, and Fedora 17, all on the same machine. I really can't tell what is causing it, but it is driving me completely insane, since it's basically forcing...

[ubuntu] samba persistently asks for password

I'm trying to share a folder with samba with my windows 7 netbook, and it keeps asking for a username and password. I've made a number of changes to smb.conf in line with various suggestions I've...
  3. [ubuntu] Re: Computer freezes randomly, need help finding a cause, and hopefully a solution

Just had a freeze again, and when I restarted (Magic REISUB worked this time), I got an error reporting window saying Ubuntu had an internal error. I've had this before.

  4. [ubuntu] Re: Computer freezes randomly, need help finding a cause, and hopefully a solution

I've switched to chrome over the last week or so, and have had no freezes. Looks like it was indeed something to do with firefox. Anyone else having the problem: don't use firefox anymore!
  5. [ubuntu] Re: Computer freezes randomly, need help finding a cause, and hopefully a solution

Memtest reports no errors. There seems to be a lot of discussion here of this bug, but there's not much I can take from it:...
  6. [ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu will not boot from new install...

Any chance of getting some of that code? I realize you can't copy and paste it, but get something like the first line of it?
  7. [ubuntu] Re: Computer freezes randomly, need help finding a cause, and hopefully a solution

Thanks for the replies! I'll try running memtest tonite and see what comes up. That's pretty nasty if firefox is causing whole system crashes. Is there any good way to find out what process it...

What happens when you try to boot? Does it say no OS installed or something like that?
  9. [ubuntu] Computer freezes randomly, need help finding a cause, and hopefully a solution

My HP DM1Z has been freezing since I installed Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit on it. I'm dual booting with Windows 7 64 bit, and though I don't use it super often, I have no freezing problems with windows. ...

Thanks for the reply! I'm using wl, and have gone through the regular issues with the bcm4313. blacklist, reinstall wl from synaptic, and then a reboot usually fixes things when a kernel update or...

  22. [SOLVED] Re: Possible fix for wireless: BCM4313 (14e4:4727) on hp dm1 laptop with Ubuntu 11.10

Fixed it! Reinstalled bcmwl-source-kernel-source in synaptic, restarted, and wifi started working great. wahoo!
  23. [SOLVED] Re: Possible fix for wireless: BCM4313 (14e4:4727) on hp dm1 laptop with Ubuntu 11.10

Just to double-check, actually the driver that software center says I have is broadcom-sta-source. I can't seem to find bcmwl-source, and apt-get install says unable to locate package bcmwl-source.
  24. [SOLVED] Re: Possible fix for wireless: BCM4313 (14e4:4727) on hp dm1 laptop with Ubuntu 11.10

Thanks for the quick replies folks! So I tried what wildmanne39 suggested, but no dice. bcma and brcmsmac are both in blacklist.conf, but lspci -k still lists them as the drivers. I also went...
