  1. [SOLVED] Re: Change icon for a single item - is it possible?

I guess I didn't. :) In hindsight that seems obvious. But I'm a Gnome refugee, and in Gnome you don't have to add %f to get the launcher to pass that info, so it never occurred to me to try that...
  2. [SOLVED] Re: Change icon for a single item - is it possible?

That solves my problem. Marking thread solved. Thanks!
  3. [SOLVED] Re: Change icon for a single item - is it possible?

Well, almost. The problem with that is that changing the mime type icon association would change the icons for ALL shell scripts, not just the particular ones I'm interested in altering.

    Aha....

    Re: Im so pissed off

Let me see if I have this correct.

You don't know how to code, and you think no one should ever have to use the command line. You think Ubuntu is too complicated. And you want to build an OS...
  5. [SOLVED] Re: Change icon for a single item - is it possible?

Thank you, but as I said originally, I cannot use launchers. The scripts must actually be located on the desktop to function.

There is a good reason for this. These scripts are designed to act...

  7. [SOLVED] Change icon for a single item - is it possible?

I'm using Xubuntu 11.10. I've got a couple of script files on the desktop and would like to assign them different icons than the default "page" icon that shell scripts usually have. I don't want...

[ubuntu] Re: Error when: sudo apt-get update

You are missing a space between the URL and the word "lucid" in line 6 and 7.

You also don't need to have the same pair of repos repeated three times. Once each will suffice.
  9. [ubuntu] Re: /etc/hostname and /etc/hosts files are out of sync and I don't know what to do.

Boot from a live CD, mount your hard drive to /media, and edit /media/etc/hosts as root. Save and reboot.

  12. [SOLVED] Re: How does one remove plymouth without it marking many other packages for removal?

As I recall, plymouth is so tied into the boot process that it's difficult if not impossible to extricate it.

Why not just use the nosplash option in your boot instead? That'll give you your...

    [SOLVED] Re: Hacked today, help!

Probably just a brute force bot attack on hotmail, trying passwords and accounts at random. It happens. You're lucky they didn't change the password and lock you out of the account completely once...

    [ubuntu] Re: building raid server

Good point. I think mine has only 8.

He'd probably have to install a PCI-E SATA controller to get the extra ports. He could get away with a cheaper PCI controller if he just needed one extra...

Re: What happened to the Ubuntu fever???

I think those who blame it on the interface change are correct. Unity lost Ubuntu a lot of supporters and momentum.

Look at what's happening with the downstream distros. Crunchbang, which used...

    [ubuntu] Re: building raid server

I prefer Linux's software RAID over hardware RAID controllers. The goal of giving RAID control to a dedicated piece of hardware was to take the load off the CPU, but that was years ago when CPUs...

Some distros do. There are legalities surrounding proprietary formats like Flash, audio/video codecs, hardware drivers, and other stuff. Some distros play it safe with those things and ask the...

    [SOLVED] Re: Just wondering!

The best way to see the difference is to boot from a Kubuntu live CD and try it out.

[ubuntu] Re: DVDFab Replacement in UBuntu

I assume you mean DVDFab HD Decrypter, right? As someone else already pointed out, that works fine in Wine. But if you would prefer a native Linux app, k9copy works well.

    [SOLVED] Re: Update?

If you add an untrusted repo, and that repo contains later versions of things already installed on your system, the next update will try to update them from the new source. This is likely the reason...
