[ubuntu] Re: Unable to upgrade from 12.04.5 to 14.04.1

Thanks for this. Though I don't quite understand what you mean by "simply updating (precise > trusty)". Do I just replace "precise" with "trusty" in sources.list?

[ubuntu] Re: Unable to upgrade from 12.04.5 to 14.04.1

I don't run X therefore there is no Software Updater with any buttons to click. This is a headless server so it needs to be done from the command line.

[ubuntu] Unable to upgrade from 12.04.5 to 14.04.1

I am running Ubuntu 12.04.05 (on a vmWare VM, but I don't think should matter for this) and when I log in it says:
    New release '14.04.1 LTS' available.
Run 'do-release-upgrade' to upgrade to it.

[SOLVED] Re: Port 80 blocked in new 14.04 installation

I've solved the problem! Thanks for the pointer to the network hardware. That got me thinking and I eventually tracked the problem down to Sophos > Network Protection > Firewall > Rules. I needed to...

[SOLVED] Re: Port 80 blocked in new 14.04 installation

I have just rebooted my network hardware (which by the way is a Sophos UTM VM), but I still can't telnet to 192.168.0.120 80. I can, however, telnet to 192.168.0.99 80 (this is the new IP address of...

[SOLVED] Re: Port 80 blocked in new 14.04 installation

No it didn't change. The old machine had an IP address of 192.168.0.120 and so does the new one (obviously I'm not running the old machine any more). I'm 99% sure that the block is happening on the...

  8. Re: Suspend Xscreensaver when invoking XBMC (Kodi) from MythTV

Sorry, perhaps I didn't explain the problem correctly. I'm looking for a way of doing this seamlessly with no user intervention. This is a MythTV box so people shouldn't need to use keyboards or mice...
  9. Suspend Xscreensaver when invoking XBMC (Kodi) from MythTV

I have got Kodi v14 (was XBMC) installed on my MythTV v0.27 frontend. When watching a video in Kodi the screensaver kicks in and blanks the screen, and the way to unblank it is to press a key on the...

Re: XenCenter login failure to new XCP-XAPI box

I've managed to de-garble the line in the /etc/pam.d/xapi file. If you change the file to look like this, you should be able to log in with XenCenter:

    #%PAM-1.0
    auth include common-auth

Thank you. I did see that page but didn't understand it. Does it mean that every script that needs to run as part of cron.daily must have its own line in /etc/sudoers?
