    Yes, nomodeset did it, thanks!
    I was able to boot, and do the install.
    Now the next problem is that when I boot to the installed system, it seems to be working ... except, that it does not respond...

    Do not rm ~/.xsession-errors!
    The processes that have it open will hang on to it, and keep writing, and eating up your disk space.
    Linking to /dev/null seems to help for a while, but then something...
