  1. [ubuntu] Re: Desktop crashes and kicks user back to graphical log-in screen on start GNU Emacs

I'm so glad I found this thread! I'm experiencing the same crash. At first I was too impatient to wait for it to kick me back to the desktop login, and I would have to press the reset button or the...

Re: TEAM FORTRESS 2 Supports Linux!

Apparently the survey for beta testers opened on October 26th, but it was never posted to Valve's Linux blog. I kept looking for it, too, but when we came to the 29th, I figured I'd google search it,...

Re: Unable to install Wine on Ubuntu 12.04 x64

You mean should you go ahead and install it? Yes. You can always uninstall it if it doesn't work.

Re: Unable to install Wine on Ubuntu 12.04 x64

Ok. Just to be safe, though, could you give us the output of the three commands I asked you about in my first post?

    which wine
    whereis wine
    wine --version

Next, I would type "sudo apt-get...

Re: Unable to install Wine on Ubuntu 12.04 x64

It would appear that you have either multiple wine installs conflicting with one another, or traces of old wine installs making it impossible to install a new version of wine.

    Please give us the...

    Re: Steam Won't Open

I'd you'd like to stop using the "-no-dwrite" option, you can go into winecfg, libraries tab, and add "dwrite.dll", then edit, and disable it.
  8. Re: ubuntu 11.10 terraria steam winetricks dosen't work

Sounds a lot like a problem that came up a few years ago regarding gameoverlayrenderer.dll. In winecfg, go to libraries, type that in, add it, then disable it when you edit. Let us know if that works...

    Re: Could not load kernel32.dll

This thread has deviated so much from my original problem, I think it's time to call it "solved." I was able to install steam by going into winecfg and disabling dwrite.dll in the libraries tab. I...

Give us the output of a few things that might help you. Try these three and let us know what you get.

    Re: Could not load kernel32.dll

    Could not load kernel32.dll

So I upgraded from 10.04 LTS to 12.04 LTS recently, and I've been really happy with the upgrade, except for gaming performance in wine. I only play half-life 1 and half-life 2, but I was noticing...

  19. Re: COD Black Ops -- Sudden issues after playing for nearly a year

  20. Re: Left 4 Dead 2 - installed fine, intro is fine, but loads indefnitely

Re: Fallout: New Vegas - Graphics Rendering

Looks like your video card isn't powerful enough. According to this site, a GeForce GT 140 (a.k.a. 9600 GT) is the minumum card required, and it has 1GB of VRAM, whereas you only have 256M on your...
