The ubuntu-restricted-extras package does fix this problem, but it's restricted by adobe's patents (hence the name of the package) in some countries. I haven't tried the fluendo codecs (or even heard...
The netbook edition is just optimized for smaller screens, not lower cpu power (other than that, it's exactly the same as regular ubuntu). I'd go with Xubuntu however, as it's far lighter than...
It's best not to post it, then. What you posted would be the only relevant part of it, anyway.
It is kind of a hassle that it just "sits there" but I think it is actually doing something, just not...
Ha! That's so funny. I never knew you could do that. Good thing it limits them to one page, otherwise the whole computer would die. I wonder if it works in BSD or just linux?
I also attempted to...
There is an option in the sound menu that enables different sound ports (and even usb speakers, phones, etc.) to process sound, you just need to change the aplification settings. Unfortunatley I...
I also had this same problem with the exact same version of kubuntu (I seem to have a lot of problems with kubuntu, now that I think about it), and I honestly couldn't fix it. Vanilla ubuntu worked...
Yeah, it's a video driver error. If you use integrated graphics (like if you plug your monitor into a blue plug next to your usb ports), then there's no way you can enable desktop effects (installing...
Yeah, I get the same kinda thing before plymouth flashes up (except it's just a single blinking cursor against a black screen, no words, no status, kinda like the old black screens of death you'd get...
Maybe it was something to do with not being able to have the same two characters in a command, or maybe a command character limit or something?
Interesting thing, never gave much thought to it,...
If you've got a spare USB drive (like an empty one, or one you don't need) you can make a USB image and boot from that. There's also a bunch of programs you can use to mount the .iso inside Windows...
So, I assume you can get to the actual menu, right? (the purple coloured screen, with the ubuntu logo, and the two white icons), or does it go straight to plymouth?
Anyway, I'm just going to...
Optus is heaps cheaper, but the 10MB increment thing kills it. Coverage isn't too bad though, I got pretty good coverage out near Richmond (Penrith/Windsor), compared to Vodafone and 3 which had...
Is it wireless or mobile internet? I've always had problems with mobile internet dropping out, it's because of interference from cell phones and other mobile users, as well as street traffic and...
What do you mean it refused to boot? I had a similar problem with upgrading from Karmic to Beta 1, where I had a blank screen with the blinking cursor, before the screen went completely black. Ubuntu...
In Kubuntu 9.10 when you log in, you click on the speaker icon in the tray, and hit the "Mute" checkbox, then it will be muted until you unmute it again, even when you logout and log back in again....
It looks like it's one of those "module is installed, but python doesn't want to read it" errors, based on similar posts on google.
I haven't tried these, but they might be what you're looking...
Then it's just a matter of bringing up Network Manager and configuring the actual connection so you can connect. If it's a mobile internet connection, you can bring up the manager by clicking on it...
I use 08b1, doesn't seem to be a problem. Haven't tried b3, though, but both 08b1 and 0.71 work for me.
Probably wait for 08b4 or just wine it. Shame there isn't a decent alternative for the...
Not a problem. Luckily I have a Huawei E160E modem, which works fine under Ubuntu. What exactly is the problem with the modem? If you insert it into the USB drive, does Ubuntu read it (does an icon...
Dreamweaver is slow through Wine anyway, and looks about as good as it does on Windows 98.
Anyway, there are a bunch of different native programs you can use, but they don't have the same number...
I'm pretty sure that unless you have the tools on a CD or USB, you can't install from apt-get without a net connection (or at least this was my understanding), and I don't think there is a .deb...
Nope, it means Java installed flawlessly. I don't see any error messages in that, so it should be fine. Test some sort of Java application to make sure, though.
EDIT: Whoops, didn't read properly....
