    Re: Advantages of Python?

It must be at least something like Perl seeing as Matz (the creator of Ruby) says that he based it, in part, on Perl and in fact named it Ruby because of Perl. (Pearl is the birthstone before Ruby)

  2. Re: If Linux development tools are supposed to be is so good -

I agree, it can be not only fun but illuminating. Personally, having been forced to use Dreamweaver in a previous job I discovered it isn't as bad as people make out. Ultimately though, it isn't...
  3. Re: Seriously, stop being rude to people who complain about Linux!

Well firstly I'm surprised that anyone considers this forum "rude". Apart from the half baked zealotry of people who only just learnt about open source in the last fortnight (see people advocating...
  4. Re: Seriously, stop being rude to people who complain about Linux!

Searching the forum (or google that will more than likely turn upo forum results) doesn't give you the human response forums do? How is that possible?
  5. Re: Using gedit - all files are duplicated and appended with ~

Except that he/she said this is code used for a web app, you seriously can't see ANY potential security holes from someone reading the code of a web app?

Re: Vote on the new Compiz/Beryl merge name

Beryl is a horrible name from a UK perspective, nova is a definite improvement.

Re: Why does Automatix break systems?

Hopefully me posting this won't get the thread deleted but although I would in no way put it past anyone on this forum to be childish, more than likely the attitude of the automatix creator played no...

Re: Gaim renamed to Pidgin IM

That's not entirely true. The copyright holders of code are allowed to relicense as they see fit and so it's perfectly acceptable for a team to close source a project. Now of course if GAIM includes...

    Re: Web Design - WYSIWYG v. Hand-Coded

It's a bit sneaky comparing the DW functionality to what is possibly (by design) the least featured text editor possible.

If you update your comparison to more featured competitors:

    auto...

Re: why do we need women?

    Small wonder being similarly dense
  12. Re: Automatix vs EasyUbuntu vs Better Alternative

I'm close to the point of wishing death on the person who coined that stupid catchphrase.

Btw though Bobby, seeing as every single distro of Linux in existence is in fact for human beings I don't...

Re: Toppling Linux -- Forbes article

Well I assumed it was a given that the copyright holders can change the license of their code. I thought the issue was whether or not people should be free to arbitraily modify the license of code...

    Re: Linux Application Naming Conventions

I'm a professional web developer and I still see no connection. I have never once weaved (or woven I guess) a dream and web design has never been described as anything resembling dreamweaving by...

Re: Toppling Linux -- Forbes article

That's a typo right? Surely you mean to say "The same freedoms apply for people who want to write closed source"

I would 100% agree that anyone should be free to release their code under whatever...

    Re: Linux Application Naming Conventions

Perhaps there could possibly be some argument that Windows describes what the software does (to a degree) seeing as the OS facilitates various apps opening in windows. You're lying to yourself to...

    Re: Linux Application Naming Conventions

    Not really

How can you seriously type this after it's been repeately shown through out the thread that weird and nondescriptive names such as Windows, Dreamweaver, Flash and iPod have proved...

Re: why do we need women?

As a guy you would still be prone to torture (see Guantanamo bay or Uzbekistan). I really doubt that if for whatever reason you got the Abner Louima treatment and had a sink plunger forcibly inserted...

Excellent, more pointless hyperbole. I'm quite sure that everyone who reads this thread will realise full well that there is next to no chance of anyone being sent to prison for infringing the...

Poll: Re: Who even pays for photoshop anyway?

    Absolutely true.

Completely unrelated, that is not at all comparable to what actually happened. Let me tell you this though, if you could somehow make a 100% working duplicate of my car that...

Re: Cell phone that works with Ubuntu?

With the sony ericsson w810 you can mount both the phone and the memory card in Linux so you can at least get pics and whatever else on & off the phone easily. Have no clue about modem use though
