    Hello,

I left my laptop briefly unattended while I used the restroom at a coffee shop. I asked the owner to keep an eye on the machine for me. Later, I wanted to see what type of encryption they...

    [ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu in virtualbox

    Hello,

You could also try Xubuntu, its less resource intensive so it should be a little smoother on a VM. It is also very similar to ubuntu (the only difference should be the window manager) so...

    Re: webcam on PanP6

This was one of the first things I tried since it has always been the cause of my webcam issues! However, it did not work this time. I'll try booting from a live cd and seeing if its detected that...

Re: Backup Finished. Could not back up...

I suspect the files you were unable to backup are owned by root and you may not be allowed to read them (some files owned by root are readable by any user.)

Backing those up may not be worth it....

[lubuntu] Re: 12.04 lagging with virtual machine ?

I run two mint (nadia, one cinnamon and one mate) guests on an ubuntu 12.04 host and I have noticed that they are generally slower than the windows XP guest. I give them the max allowed video...
  10. [ubuntu] Re: files from scratch can't possibly have viruses

I would not worry about that. Also, if you are sharing these files via email, some email servers like gmail scan files for you. I imagine others do the same. clamav is also a good option, but if...
  11. [ubuntu] Re: Not a new user, but I had windows before as a crutch

I dont know if I am understanding correctly, but you mentioned the utilization of a vritual machine running a windows guest. My impression was that you wanted to use the virtual box to utilize...

    [ubuntu] Re: No Admin Account

Also, the password requested by sudo is your user password. For example, in my computer, my user name is joe, so when I do sudo, I enter the same password I enter when I log in as joe.

    Re: Music files to ogg

Sound Converter (software center) allows you to choose an entire directory and it will convert all files in the directory to a target file type specified by you. This is a GUI, so if you need...

    Re: webcam on PanP6

I have been trying with cheese. I also tried the tests in

  17. Re: transfering Windows XP from one computer to VirtualBox on an Ubuntu system

Well, I am assuming that your windows installation has its own NTFS partition. If that is the case, delete anything you dont need and resize the partition. That way the resulting virtual hard disk...
  18. Re: What do I need to know about this Java issue everyone's talking about?

Also, I think if you did not install the restricted extras you wont have java. So, if you are only using the restricted-addons (but not the entire restricted extras package) you should be fine.

  22. Re: transfering Windows XP from one computer to VirtualBox on an Ubuntu system

You could try dd the image of the disc onto a vdi file stored on an external hard drive with enough space. I doubt these boot the same way, so the virtualization software may not be able to boot it....
