  1. Laptop with 17.10 suspends with lid closed, even with an external display attached

My understanding is that by default, GNOME is configured to not suspend when you close the lid and an external display is attached. This has been the case for quite a while. However, with Ubuntu...

    [SOLVED] Re: Serious NFS Issues

I added the async and no_root_squash options to /etc/exports. I also added NEED_IDMAPD=yes to /etc/default/nfs-common. I restarted the both portmap and nfs-kernel-server after.

    [SOLVED] Re: Serious NFS Issues

I appreciate all of the replies you guys. It might be fixed. I'm not certain if one or more of the suggestions here fixed it or if I've been lucky lately, but nfs hasn't locked up the server since...

    [SOLVED] Re: Serious NFS Issues

Thanks, I'll try that next. I just had it lock up again today. This time, it happened when I tried to use Clonezilla to save a hard disk image over NFS.

    [SOLVED] Re: Serious NFS Issues

I had a really busy night and wasn't able to test it much, but I did test it with the async option just once and it did work (mount and unmount) so that's a start at least. I'll test further this...

    [SOLVED] Re: Serious NFS Issues

I'll have to respectfully disagree wit you on this. At my job we have 50 Linux servers and 80-ish Linux desktop computers, and everyone mounts/unmounts NFS shares and has never seen an issue before....

    [SOLVED] Re: Serious NFS Issues

In my case, the server itself wouldn't have problems writing if it's the client that's doing all the writing, would it?

My understanding of Samba (and the reasons I moved away from it) is that NFS...

    [SOLVED] Serious NFS Issues

I decided to switch my environment to NFS, since I'm all-Linux, and decided it would be better than using Samba for everything. Unfortunately, the results have been catastrophic. Before I get...
  10. [all variants] Re: qtcurve: Affects GNOME apps when not logged into KDE

I wonder if maybe I should submit a bug against the qtcurve package?
  11. [all variants] Re: qtcurve: Affects GNOME apps when not logged into KDE

Thanks for the reply, but I give up. I am under the impression that there is no possible way to have two desktop environments installed without the settings from one affecting the other. :(
  12. [all variants] qtcurve: Affects GNOME apps when not logged into KDE

I recently installed KDE as a secondary desktop environment (not kubuntu-desktop, but just the bare-minimal KDE packages) and I also installed qtcurve so that GTK applications won't look stupid in...

    [ubuntu] Re: Port Forwarding (iptables)

I just wanted to say, thank you VERY MUCH for your help. By using your guidance as a base, I was able to create a script that sets up all my rules, with security in mind. I checked my new policy...

    [ubuntu] Re: Port Forwarding (iptables)

Okay, this is strange. Today it is working. I haven't changed anything since the last time I tried it. I am using the 3G on my phone to SSH into my home network (with WIFI disabled) and now that I'm...

    [ubuntu] Re: Port Forwarding (iptables)

To give you a bit of history, I previously used a wireless router with the cable modem plugged into the WAN port. Port forwarding worked fine with that configuration, I was able to ssh into my home...

[ubuntu] Re: Help Needed With Port Forwarding (iptables)

That server is my router. The cable modem is plugged into eth0 and eth1 is plugged into a 24-port switch. The routing between eth0 and eth1 works fine but port forwarding times out from the outside....

    [kubuntu] Re: Easytag Broken

Right now, running "sudo easytag" seems to work. Your point about Easytag being abandoned is probably true, but I don't think the problem is Easytag. I think it is a Kubuntu 13.04 specific bug. It's...
