If you boot onto a LiveCD does it boot? If so please post the results of

Tried it---then rebooted--the computer goes to Stopping System V runlevel compatibility withj [ok] on the the right corner.
I CANNOT do an install.
The computer just says "take the disc out and press enter"--and then goes into a fit/spasm, and gets stuck. All the sudoing to get upgrades and updates and checking...
During the upgrade from 11.04 to 11.10, via wireless, the computer froze, so I restarted it--it did not load Ubuntu anymore, nor did it try to upgrade.
I have tried restarting it in safe mode--but...
yes, I read the first post, and have googled the heck out of the problem. I still am not able to have any Ubuntu back--not the old 11.04 or the new (partially upgraded 11.10).
It is very surprising...
I have wasted a day trying to get this to un-upgrade and get the old ubuntu back...I am sure its just not worth it for me.
