Re: .mozilla is gowing very large.

Just go to Firefox's Options, then Advanced->Network, and under "Cached Web Content"-section you'll find both a button to clear the cache, and an option to set limit to cache size.

    (Of course keep...

Re: file roller won't extract "gz" file

If it just hangs without any error message, I would suspect the file you have is corrupted. The website for RetroPie has md5 checksum for the file, might be worth checking that (you can just run...

Re: file roller won't extract "gz" file

Does it give any error? Have you tried unzipping it from command line? Any errors there? Maybe try checking that it really is a gzip file with the "file" command?

    Re: VGA cable bad?

Could be defective, but could just be slightly less well protected against outside interference. VGA is analog format after all, and especially on longer cables interference can become an issue. If...

    Re: Improving font appearance question

Depends on if your new display can handle higher resolution than you had before, or not. If yes, then switch to it, if not, there really isn't anything you can do, the limitation is on hardware...
  7. [SOLVED] Re: file in home folder named linux_signing_key.pub

Sounds like a PGP key. I'd guess you have at some point installed a new piece of software, and the install process included configuring a new software source, downloading the signing key for that...

Re: Understanding how hdpi configuration works

try running "xrandr --dpi 210", and then disabling the scaling. Does that work?

Sadly it looks like Linux desktops have done same thing Windows has being doing all the time, and removed the DPI &...

    [ubuntu_mate] Re: Mate on R-Pi

Take a look inside /etc/apt.sources.list.d/ directory, there's probably a .list file there that includes that repository. Remove the files and apt-get should be happy again.

    (looks like that...
  10. [ubuntu_mate] Re: Not Quite Understanding Mount Point/Terminal Commands

All "df -h" does is it lists any mounted file systems and the available free space on them. I suppose you could use that information to determine which device a specific directory is on, for exmaple...
  11. [ubuntu] Re: adding a new screen resolution in Ubuntu 16.04

Can you tell a bit more about your computer? If you have a separate graphics card, installing the proprietary AMD or nVidia drivers for it would probably do the trick...

Re: How to turn off auto updates?

The very first answer to this thread gives you the instructions how to turn off the update system, what's the problem? You can have full control (and responsibility...) of your system, all you need...

Re: How to turn off auto updates?

The option is for how often you want to be notified about updates. Since installing security updates as quickly as possible is absolutely critical for keeping your Linux system safe, it will check...
  14. [ubuntu] Re: What version of Ubuntu should i use for an Asus Intel Atom Netbook?

Depends on how much RAM you have, but the regular Ubuntu should work just fine, it's mainly a question of if it's going to feel fast enough for you and if there's going to be enough memory left for...
  15. [ubuntu] Re: What version of Ubuntu should i use for an Asus Intel Atom Netbook?

Something lightweight might be a good idea, so I'd recommend giving Lubuntu a try. What comes to x86 or AMD64, that depends on exact model of the CPU. Older Atoms were 32-bit only and would only work...
  16. [SOLVED] Re: Swappiness set at 100; htop showing 114 MB, max Swap is 7.5 GB; Wanting max

swappiness is not absolute control over swap use. Even with swappiness set to 0, the kernel will use swap if it would otherwise run out of memory. And even with swappiness of 100, kernel will still...

    [SOLVED] Re: Set cpu frequency

Well, the max turbo boost frequency for i7-3610QM is 3.3GHz. But that's controlled by the CPU itself, not the OS, so changing the governors on Ubuntu side would not have any effect on that,the...

    [SOLVED] Re: Set cpu frequency

looking at the last output, when you ran that, the CPU was scaled down to 1.8GHz. So I'd assume you are just getting false number from cpufreq-info and the scaling is actually working just fine.

    Re: Replacing processor?

That's about 10 years old hardware, so anything like i3/5/7 wouldn't even be an option. You'll have hard time finding anything else than possibly some used processors.
