  1. [kubuntu] Re: mactel-support dkms modules missing for 11.10

Facing the same problem for my 5,5 Macbook. No screen dimming means the thing gets painful to look at, at night. Shame, because everything runs really smoothly.
  2. Re: Does it worry anyone that Ubuntu is becoming unpopular?

I have it, but yeah, I don't particularly use it any more. On my machine Windows 7 is actually faster than 10.04 and as I've got into music technology a bit more, I shifted to the Windows-only...
  3. Does it worry anyone that Ubuntu is becoming unpopular?

    http://www.google.com/trends?q=ubuntu

This has been my 'go-to' for Ubuntu popularity over the last few years. Now it seems the last time it was this unpopular was way back in 2007.

    Maybe it's...

    Re: Mythical May Screenshots 2010

I've wished for a desktop this simple for a long, long time. Thanks to AWN's customisability, I now have *the* perfect layout (IMO). I have an auto-hidden AWN panel which serves as a complete...

    Re: Ambitious April Screenshots 2010

I've decided to go back to basics, and create something really simple to work with. One folder for all my files, and a very unobtrusive layout. It's like a blend of Windows 3.1 and OS X.

Re: Updated Nvidia driver released (195.36.15)

I tried this latest driver and all I get is an error just after the module's being built that nvidia.ko couldn't be loaded. Anyone have any ideas?

    EDIT: Never mind, fixed it.

It looks like it's based on Ubuntu. The source code was just posted on the chromium site, here's the list of packages. It uses apt.

[all variants] Re: Best Linux Video Editing System

LMMS will have proper audio support in 2010 - e.g being able to add, edit, slice audio tracks and samples like you would in Audacity. :)

    I recommend LMMS.

Well, that's because I help with the project (documentation etc), but yeah. It's exactly what you're looking for as an FL Studio replacement.

Yeah, try out LMMS, it's one of the best DAWs on Linux now (especially the latest version). You can install the very latest version of LMMS from the instructions on the Download page:...

Yup, it's nice to use the MacBook for audio production, as the sound quality is very good indeed.

I've fixed the problem. The with-card flag during configure is unnecessary and anyone who wants midi support too should remove it.

After a bit more investigating, it turns out that the midi modules "snd-usb-audio" and "snd-rawmidi" weren't loading, and modprobing them returns "module not found" errors.

    I've emailed alsa-users...

Any idea why this might be the case? What's broken since Jaunty?

EDIT: By turning Master volume down in alsamixer, I can "hide" the crackles, though it's not as loud as it could be.
