  1. [ubuntu] SERP4 on Karmic - watching for filesystem corruption

I've just done a clean install of Karmic on my serp4. Previously, I've had filesystem corruption issues (within a few weeks of installation) of nearly every version I can remember installing. I...

[all variants] Re: Update on fs-corrupting kernel bug?

I haven't noticed an association with large file transfers; I suppose it depends on how you define large. My primary work involves use and conversion (to OO.org) of Microsoft Office documents, often...

[all variants] Re: Update on fs-corrupting kernel bug?

I can't recall offhand if I used ext4 or ext3; I'll have to run fsck from the livecd so I can fix it enough to tell. I *do* know it uses kernel 2.6.31.10, which should be well past the fix.

    I had...

[all variants] Re: Update on fs-corrupting kernel bug?

I hate to revive this dreaded topic, but I think I might have this in Karmic-alpha5. I did a clean install of Karmic about two weeks ago, which initially worked fine, and then gradually started...

    [other] syncing openoffice toolbar layouts?

I've successfully managed to set up a home dir syncing solution with unison, including firefox bookmarks. I've been unsuccessful finding exactly what needs to be synced for the layout of openoffice...

Thank you; those are very good answers, and I will follow your advice.
  9. [all variants] [solved] dual-distro partition question

I'm planning on installing Ubuntu 8.04 LTS and OpenSUSE 11.1 with the following partition setup. Let me know if anything is whacky please.

    120gb drive

swap: 4 gb (system has 4gb ram)
    ubuntu...
  10. [ubuntu] Re: fs corrupting on 2 machines, one brand new

Swapping to a different kernel, as outlined in the bug report, seems to have fixed the problem for me.

[all variants] Re: Update on fs-corrupting kernel bug?

I wonder. Most of the relevant bug reports point toward it being a specific kernel; x.x.x.x-11, whichever one ships with the 9.04 installation, and affecting primarily (exclusively?) the 64-bit...

[all variants] Re: Update on fs-corrupting kernel bug?

For those wondering about the filesystem mattering, I've had this occur on a serp4, Ubuntu and Kubuntu 64 bit jaunty under both ext3 and ext4. I haven't looked into nvidia involvement yet though.
  14. [ubuntu] Re: fs corrupting on 2 machines, one brand new

I've been dealing with the filesystem corruption for awhile now; initially I was directed at tracker as the probable cause, but I'm not so sure, since I thought tracker was not enabled by default in...

I'll try that. However, a new problem cropped up. I used the system for awhile, and closed all the programs. I opened firefox, but it didn't display on the screen. I managed to find its borders,...

Running fsck from the partition manager on the LiveCD seems to have cured both partitions; I am able to boot and so far, it seems to be working normally.

    [ubuntu] Re: Line-Out to Line-In audio daisy-chaining
