  1. [all variants] Re: Filesharing between Windows 7 x64 and Linux x86 - very low speeds

    This is weird...

The computers concerned are as follows:
    Debian machine - "server"
    Windows 7 machine - "desktop"
    xubuntu machine - "laptop"

samba from server to desktop - slow as all gang...
  2. [all variants] Filesharing between Windows 7 x64 and Linux x86 - very low speeds

Now, I realize that technically this isn't an Ubuntu issue but I'm not sure it really matters, where the distros are so similar. I'm using a Debian machine to run bittorrent and other large...

    [xubuntu] System very lethargic.

I've got this 12.10 machine. Fairly new Asus laptop. i3. 4gb DDR3. No reason it should be so slow that I can think of. System load looks good, RAM looks good. I've been using top and free for this....

    [xubuntu] Mounting from command line

No, I don't mean using "mount /dev/sdxy /mnt/xxx". I've noticed that Xubuntu 12.10 does not automatically mount drives when they're plugged in the way Ubuntu does. In several cases with USB external...

    [ubuntu] Re: Corrupted, white terminals

This leads me to believe it's a driver issue. Not many drivers are loaded in recovery mode, and certainly not a proprietary AMD driver. If I'm right, then there really isn't a lot you can do about...

    [ubuntu] Re: Corrupted, white terminals

I am lost, to be honest, but it may be helpful to point out that "reset" definitely did not do what I was expecting it to, which is to clear and reinitialize the terminal. Instead it just printed a...

    Re: Encryption: Files emptying themselves

Well, this is weird. That's almost exactly the same process I used before, except the installing of cryptsetup. I installed cryptsetup and ran through the process once again, and it seems to be...

    Re: Update manager

No. Not unless you have the power management settings configured in such a way that the screen just turns off when you close the lid, rather than putting the system to sleep.

What model of wireless card do you have?

in a terminal, type lspci, press enter, then copy and paste the result.

    [ubuntu] Re: Corrupted, white terminals

Have you tried logging in to these pure terminals anyway? just type your username and password like you normally would. See if typing "reset" and enter helps.

Also, can we get a picture of this?...
  13. [ubuntu] Re: File Sharing on dual boot system: Ubuntu & Mint

Your question needs to be a little more specific. How exactly do you want to share files?

If this was my system, I'd go about the sharing of files between two OSes one of two ways:

    Option 1:...
  14. [ubuntu] Re: How can I have different X & sound configuration depending on which user logs in?

Not really sure, but have you considered using a keystroke to toggle between monitor and the TV, similar to Win7's super-P or "connect to a projector" GUI?

    Encryption: Files emptying themselves

Set up encryption on a USB drive and put some files on it yesterday. Today, I plug in and log in, and most of the files are now empty, or literally 0-byte. Ideas?

If I'm understanding your question correctly, every modern VNC client I've ever seen supports multi-screen servers. usually one can scroll to the left or right on the client and see the other screen.

    [ubuntu] Re: wireless sharing

Doesn't Tomato allow you to configure the router as a repeater or a client-bridge? That's how I'd do it. If tomato doesn't support it, look into DD-WRT.
